Melford Nicholas, Minister of Information Communication Technologies, Utilities and Energy of Antigua and Barbuda, Visits Hiroshima and Tours Takehara Lab
On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, The Honourable Melford Nicholas, Minister of Information Communication Technologies, Utilities and Energy of Antigua and Barbuda — an island nation located in the eastern Caribbean — visited Hiroshima and toured WOTA’s Takehara Lab in Takehara City, Hiroshima Prefecture.
During the visit, WOTA briefed Minister Nicholas on the Small-Scale Decentralized Water Regeneration System currently being deployed to secure domestic water supplies within Antigua and Barbuda. He sampled water filtered from rainwater and viewed water regeneration systems for toilet flushing and other household uses. He also met with local residents participating in the demonstration project for the Residential Water Regeneration System “WOTA Unit,” as well as Takehara Elementary School, which operates the Emergency Water Regeneration System for Disaster Management “WOTA Unit ER.” He observed how the systems are utilized on-site and directly exchanged views with local community members.
Furthermore, during a meeting with Mayor Akimichi Hirai and Vice Mayor Osamu Uchiyama of Takehara City, Minister Nicholas shared insights into the water challenges facing Antigua and Barbuda and highlighted the application of WOTA’s technology as a potential solution.
In a subsequent meeting with Governor Mika Yokota of Hiroshima Prefecture, Minister Nicholas spoke about his visit to Takehara City.
This visit offered an opportunity to deepen Minister Nicholas’s understanding of and interest in the value of WOTA’s Small-Scale Decentralized Water Regeneration Systems and their practical application in the field.
WOTA will continue to advance its efforts toward building sustainable water infrastructure in Antigua and Barbuda.
