Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi Inspects Evacuation Center in Hikawa Town Following the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake; Air Self-Defense Force Installs and Operates “WOTA BOX”

On Sunday, August 23, 2026, Minister of Defense Shinjiro Koizumi visited and inspected an evacuation center in Hikawa Town.

At the site, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force has installed Water-Recycling Shower “WOTA BOX” units and is managing its daily operations.

During the visit, WOTA Representative Director Yosuke Maeda also provided an overview of the ongoing daily-use water support efforts for the Kumamoto Earthquake, as well as the collaborative initiatives with local governments nationwide, the national government, the Self-Defense Forces, and other organizations.

WOTA continues to provide technical and maintenance support as needed to ensure smooth on-site operations.

WOTA will continue to work with the national government, local governments nationwide, and relevant organizations to develop a framework for delivering daily-use water wherever it is needed.
