One year has passed since the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake.
One year has passed since the Noto Peninsula Earthquake of Reiwa 6 (2024). We extend our heartfelt sympathies to all those affected by the disaster and express our deepest condolences to those who lost their lives.
Since January 4, we have continued to provide shower facilities and handwashing stations using the water-recycling shower system “WOTA BOX” and the water-recycling handwashing stand “WOSH,” which can be used even during water outages. At its peak, we deployed approximately 100 shower units and 200 handwashing stations across the entire peninsula. On December 27 of last year, we concluded the provision of shower services following the withdrawal of “WOTA BOX” from Otani Elementary and Junior High School in Suzu City. (*Handwashing services continue to be available in certain areas.)
These efforts were made possible thanks to the support and cooperation of local residents, municipalities, and partner organizations, for which we are deeply grateful.
Going forward, WOTA will continue its activities in the Noto Peninsula with the aim of building sustainable water infrastructure. Furthermore, as a preparation for national-level disasters, we will accelerate the deployment of “small-scale decentralized water recycling systems” and promote the formation of a “wide-area mutual aid network” where communities can help each other in times of need. We aim to realize a society where no one in Japan will suffer from lack of water, no matter where a disaster occurs.
